Jacob Wardell: Tyranids

PRE-MORTEM.

Against the space marines I believe my army will fare well in close combat. The orks are a different matter! I will try to destroy these from range with the combined firepower of my biovore and venom cannons. My tactics will be to try and swarm the bunker and overrun it. I had made gaunts with extra biomorphs to improve their stats so I was hoping this would help them survive a little longer.

PRE~MORTEM

I know my Orks will fare well in close combat. That is what they are designed to do. I won't have much firepower apart from some rocket launchers and a Kannon but I am hoping the Space marines saves would stop most of the incoming firepower. The game lasts a variable amount of turns. I was hoping these dice rolls would be small!! I hope the Warboss Wargear would save him from most of the fire. He now had a 3+/5+inv save!

Richard won the dice roll for first go. His Outriders moved 2d6" for their special rule.

 

Deployment:

Jacob: I'm going to deploy troops in the South-West corner of the map to avoid rocket fire in the first round. My Warriors were behind the Hive Tyrant ready to lead a flank. The Genestealers were leading the frontal push.

Rich: My tactical squads were holding the front of the garage. I am hoping they will last as long as possible. The terminators will hold up the left flank. My heavy support will hold the right. My slugga boyz were inside a looted Chimera hoping to get into close combat quickly!

1st Turn Orks + Space Marines

Unfortunately Richards rocket launchers could not meet with any of the Tyranids. He decided to stay put and hope the tyranid horde didnt inflict too much damage on the weary defenders.

Jacob Moved his right flank forward including the biovore. The Genestealers, much to Richards surprise moved back backwards, but the Hive Tyrant moved in front of them. The warriors just bunched together more. The fleet of claw rolls allowed an extra 5" movement for the hormagaunt squad. The other gaunt squads only managed a 1" fleet of claw roll. The rest of the gaunts still only managed 2"the other 1"! Unlucky fleet of claw rolls prevented Jacob getting much closer.

The biovore shot a poison mine..but the Nob biker was unhurt.

2nd Turn

Richard decided to move only his chimera to reinforce the flank and his Warboss to check on his minions. Richard moved his bike backward to escape the biovore. He moved his heavy weapon squad and terminators to defend the flank. Also moved into a tighter formation.

Jacob moved everything forward again apart from the Genestealers who mysteriously stayed back...perhaps a subtle plan. The gaunts gained ground by rolling a 1,4,1,1 again. Incredibly unlucky. Maybe the dice rolling were on the side of the imperium. Nothing was in shooting or assault range.

3rd Turn

Rich picks up the tape measure with a glint in his eye. He moves his termies and his bike into position, the chimera moves back an forth, the kannon moves the full six inches in a desperate attempt to get into range. Rich make the first blood by killing a gaunt with a bike. The gaunt squad was reduced to 50% by rocket fire (gaunts are weak but cheap!!!)

Jacob again moved the gaunts forward, and the ravener moved 9". The hormagaunts charged 6" and the fleet of claw rolls were: 1!!! the dice gods were with Rich today!, 2"!!! for the hormaguants. The remaining gaunts moved..6! WHEY! The biovore missed the Chimera. The Hive tyrant took a wound off the bike squadl.

4th Turn

Rich moved his bikes into a near assaulting position with a ravener. The chimera and terminators moved nearer to their prey. The bike and the terminators wasted the ravener. One genesteasler bit the dust from a frag round as a gaunt bit the bullet from a 9mm big shoota round fired from the mighty ork leader. The bikes ran into combat and shot a gaunt straight through the face sending blood everywhere with a big shoota round.

Jacob again moved everything forward in a desperate bid to engage in close combat. The Warriors and the hive tyrant moved closer within venom cannon range. The fleet of claw rolls were.1",2",1". I think Jacob must of annoyed the dice gods incredibly. But his shooting changed this dramatically with the Chimera being blown out of the sky and 6 orkies dead.

5th turn

Rich manages to take out a whole gaunt division with his knackered orks in combat and in his shooting phase. The bikes resolved combat but with no wounds on either side.

Jacob moved his gaunts forward again and the biovore missed again. The hive tyrant took out a GROT! The fleet of claw allowed and extra 5" movement to the gaunts in range of assualting the Warboss. The Waross evilly killed 5 gaunts and the gaunts did nothing, ran and the Warboss chased an inch behind!! RUN! The Genestealers attacked the Orks and massacred them!

6th Turn

Richard failed to exterminate the hive tyrant despite numerous attacks. His termies vaporised the 3 remaining genestealers. Then came the clash of the titans, and the Warboss excelled himself. He took 3 wounds off the alien scum, losing only 1 himself.

Jacobs gaunts moved to attack anything that came out of the clash of the titans assault. The venom cannon missed from the warrior. The ripper swarms attacked the bikes, losing a base and the bikes lost.


7th Turn

Richard removed another base of rippers and his terminators attacked the gaunts only to lose their sergeant.

During Jacobs turn the Tyranids saw the enemy troops renforcing and came to the conclusion that this planet wasnt worth the waste of alien life .

POST MORTEM

Jacob: Good game, quite close but it all depended on the clash of the titans.

Richard: Despite numerous mistakes I made the superior close combat abilities of my Warboss took those Space Pansies to the ground!
